May 19, 2026

We believe the most interesting stories aren't told on a billboard or online. They're lived by the women in our community every single day. Tiana is one of them.

A nail technician based in Burnaby, BC, Tiana spends her days transforming nails and building client relationships with her hands. We sat down with her to talk about comfort, creativity, and what it means to show up as your full self at work and at home.

The Interview

Tiana's story is a reminder that comfort isn't just physical. It's the foundation of how we show up, create, and connect with the people around us. And whether you're behind a nail desk or building a brand from scratch, that foundation matters.

1) As a nail tech, you're up and using your hands all day. How do you think about comfort when it comes to what you wear to work?

" As a nail tech, comfort is honestly everything for me because I’m constantly using my hands, sitting for long appointments, moving around, and focusing on detailed work. I still love feeling cute and put together, but if I’m uncomfortable, it affects my energy and confidence throughout the day. I definitely gravitate towards pieces that feel supportive, breathable, and easy to move in while still matching my style."

2) What does getting dressed in the morning look like for you on a busy work day and how does what you wear underneath affect how you feel?

" On a busy work day, getting dressed is usually quick because I’m juggling clients, content, messages, and sometimes pop-ups or house calls too. What I wear underneath honestly makes a huge difference in how I carry myself during the day. If I feel comfortable and secure, I feel way more confident, productive, and present with my clients instead of constantly adjusting things or feeling uncomfortable."

3) You work in a creative, client-facing industry. How does your personal style reflect who you are and how you show up for your clients?

" My personal style is very feminine, glam, and creative — which honestly reflects a lot in my nail work too. I love sparkle, details, soft colours, and pieces that make me feel confident and expressive. Since I work so closely with clients, I think the way I present myself is part of the overall experience and brand I’m building."

4) What's something you wish more people understood about being a self-employed woman in the beauty industry?

" I wish more people understood how much goes into being self-employed in the beauty industry beyond just appointments. You’re not only the artist — you’re also the content creator, customer service, marketer, accountant, social media manager, cleaner, and everything in between. It’s a lot of work behind the scenes, but it’s also really rewarding building something that’s yours."

5) What does feeling comfortable in your own skin mean to you and how does that show up in your day to day life?

" Feeling comfortable in my own skin means feeling confident without needing to force anything. It’s about being able to show up as myself, express my creativity, and feel good in what I’m wearing while doing what I love. I think when you feel comfortable physically and mentally, it naturally shows in your confidence, your work, and the energy you give to other people."
