The Dirty Truth About Your Old Underwear

Nov 10, 2025

Let’s be honest, when was the last time you replaced your underwear?

If you can’t remember or if you’re still wearing the same underwear from 5 years ago, you’re not alone. Most people wear the same pair for years, assuming that as long as they’re clean, they’re fine. But experts say you should be replacing your underwear every 6-12 months and here’s why it actually matters for your hygiene, health, and comfort.

1. Your clean underwear isn’t actually clean

This might surprise you, but even if you wash your underwear regularly, bacteria can linger deep in the fabric over time.

Between sweat, natural oils, and discharge, your underwear goes through a lot. Especially in warm weather or during workouts.

If that doesn’t convince you to refresh your underwear drawer, then here's the kicker. Studies from the Journal of Clinical Microbiology found that even freshly washed underwear can retain up to 10,000 living bacteria, including e.coli, from previous wears.

Replacing your underwear every 6-12 months helps reduce the buildup of bacteria and yeast that can lead to irritation, odor, or infections.

2. Happy vagina, happy life

Breathable, clean, and well-fitting underwear is key to maintaining a healthy vaginal microbiome.

Old, worn-out fabrics can trap moisture and bacteria, increasing the risk of irritation or infection.

Switching to fresh, high-quality underwear made with soft, breathable materials supports your skin and overall comfort, especially if you’re dealing with sensitivity.

3. Old underwear loses its shape (and comfort)

Unfortunately, nothing really lasts forever. Not even the best underwear. Over time, elastic fibers stretch, the waistband starts to loosen, and the fabric doesn’t hug your body like it used to.

When your underwear loses its fit, it stops giving you the comfort and support it was meant to do.

If you’re noticing sagging, stretched-out waistbands, or fabric that doesn’t bounce back after washing, it’s probably time for a refresh.

The Bottom Line

So like, replace your underwear. And do it every 6-12 months, depending on how often you wear and wash them. If they’ve lost elasticity, feel rough against your skin, or just don’t spark comfort anymore - it’s time.

And when it is time, we’re always here for you. Our underwear was designed to last as long as possible while keeping its shape, even in the washing machine.
